Rugs in your New Year's Resolutions

The 6 Most Common New Year's Resolutions for 2015

With the New Year now upon us, many of us have spent the last few days concocting our wishes for the year ahead. But what are the most common New Year’s resolutions, and which ones are also yours? Let’s find out…

6. To quit smoking

Cigarette smoking has dropped by over 30% in the last decade due to active campaigning and things like Stoptober, but it’s still a popular habit in the UK. It’s no surprise, then, that lots of folks want to spend 2015 kicking the habit and finally becoming a non-smoker.

5. To pay off existing debt

It’s not just smoking that’s a thorn in many of our sides – money can be too. And that’s why a lot of us are aiming to pay off as much debt as we can in the coming year and start to save. Whether that’s for travel, a new house, car or anything else – being debt-free is a goal many of us share.

4. To travel more

It’s a big world out there, and there’s a lot to see. For that reason and more besides, a lot of us will be choosing to travel more in 2015. And with fuel prices dropping to record lows, it looks like it’ll be more affordable than ever before.

3. To find a new job

If you’ve been a little bored or feeling stuck in your job, why not join the thousands of others with a resolution to find a new one? It can sometimes be a great wind of change in your life, and could set you on the path to true success. Of course, if you already have the job of your dreams – stay put!

2. To improve the interior décor of your home

Could your home do with a facelift? If so, you’re not alone. Many of us have set a resolution to improve the interior décor of our homes. That could be the wallpaper, design of the space, or even a simple addition of a quality rug (like those we sell in our shop at Rugs Direct). You might be surprised at what a difference a rug can make!

1. To get fit and lose weight

You probably saw this one coming, and that’s because it tops the resolution charts every year. With Christmas being a time to indulge and enjoy ourselves, January is often packed with joggers and gym-goers. If you fall under this umbrella, now is a great time to nab some deals on gym memberships – just make sure you use it!

Teal Rugs; Bringing a Splash of Colour to your Home

Every year it seems there’s a new colour that’s the year’s must-have. And because you’ve read the title already, you may well have guessed that 2014 is all about… that’s right: teal.
Perhaps the best way to describe teal is that it’s an almost perfect mix of green and blue. A peppy, vibrant colour with a lot of life, it’s no surprise that teal rugs are proving so popular this year. And here at Rugs Direct we’re never ones to shirk the trends, so we’ve got a host of superb teal rugs for you to try out for size. Here are our favourites.

Whisper Dark Teal Rug

If textured rugs are your thing, then you’ll just love this Whisper Dark Teal Rug. Crafted with a long pile to give a soft sheen, this rug is made in China from 100% polyester. Its rich teal colouring is enhanced by the design of the pile itself, with shades of light and dark appearing in its midst depending on the way each fibre has fallen. A truly eye-catching teal rug that’ll be at home in any room.

Nina Blossom Teal Rug

Made in Egypt using a hard-wearing material to ensure this teal rug will stand the test of time, the Nina Blossom Teal Rug is one of our customers’ favourites. Immediately striking, the rug is notable for its intricate and ornate design which uses teal as its backdrop. The design is hand-carved into the rug, making every one of these teal rugs a truly unique and individual piece.

The Peaks Matlock Teal Rugs

The Peaks Matlock Teal Rugs are actually a collection of rugs that are a true celebration of the colour. Made from a durable 100% acrylic material, this is a hard-wearing teal rug – but the real star of this show is the eye-catching design. Rather than simply sticking with a flat teal colour all the way through, this range of rugs uses unique patterns to explore the various shades of teal – and it’s something that makes them truly special.

Are you ready to bring a real splash of colour to your home with one of our teal rugs? Then why not explore our ever-growing range of teal rugs today? And if you have any questions, you can call our friendly team on 0845 838 8638 for some free expert advice.

A Rug to keep your feet warm

You have had a long day, and you have a glass of wine in hand or a beer to drink. You have put shorts on this evening because everyone else was enjoying the sun all day.

http://www.rugsdirect.co.uk/rugs/plain-nearly-plain/eva/ecru
You sit in your wonderfully comfy sofa, switch on the TV or catch up with loved ones, but in a few minutes you realise shorts this evening wasn't the right idea. Why? Because your feet are cold!

It is amazing how, if your feet become cold, then the rest of you can quickly believe the temperature has dropped. However, the sun is still up, and surely it can’t be that cold... And adding socks is not the look you were going for. So what do you do?

Well, it's time for a modern rug under your feet. Look after your feet and put a luxurious rug beneath them. Your feet will soon keep warm on these lovely long nights. Now a shaggy rug will give a texture for your feet to sink into. Feel the threads through your toes as you eat your dinner.
Alternatively we would suggest a wool rug for this. Their natural properties are sure to do the trick. You could even put a sheepskin down for a great look; you don’t have to have cream as there are now many colours to choose from.

A Guide To Stair & Hall Way Runners

Whatever your taste in design, dress your stairs with something decorative yet practical.

If you are thinking about choosing a runner for your stairs or hallway then check the condition of your floorboards and consider how the two will work together.  The next step  is to measure your stairs or hallway and decide how much space you would like to leave either side of the runner.

One of the great things about stair and hall runners is that they can can create the illusion of more space. It's just the same as painting the walls in a light colour or adding a mirror to a room.  If your stairway is dark or narrow then a patterned runner could help to make it look bigger.

As your hallway and stairs receive more traffic than the rest of your house it is important to choose a good quality runner that can cope with the daily wear and tear. For comfort and durability, it’s wise to choose a mix of wool and nylon.

You may think that stair runners are held in place by stair rods, but infact these are purely a decorative finishing touch. They add to the look of a stair runner and give it extra personality and style.

Our Brink & Campman stair runners are made from 80% pure new wool and 20 % polyamide - ideal to achieve the right balance of comfort and durability.

Add some bling to your staircase!

A stair rod, or carpet rod as some people call them date back to the late 19th century, when they were used to attach a stair runner to a staircase. Unfortunately the runner would gradually slip down the staircase which was dangerous and would often wear unevenly.

image

These day’s your carpet fitter will use gripper to secure your carpet or stair runner as it is a far safer method. However stair rods are still very popular as they now get used for decorative reasons.

Stair rods can often create a traditional look to your stair case, but what many people don’t realize is that they can also create a modern and stylish look too.

Below (left) is the 'Tudor Stair Rod Tudor Stair Rods' and below (right) is the 'Homepride Stair Rod'. Both are available from our website.

There are a variety of super stylish and traditional stair runners and carpet runners available which would be the focal point of your stair case. The stair rods would then enhance your stair case further, just like adding a bag, hat, belt or shoes to complete an outfit you are wearing.

Our most popular stair rods at present are the 'Vision' Runner Rods. The Vision stair rods feature modern finial designs with a choice of Sphere, Piston, Arrow and Balladeer finials. They are designed to complement contemporary stair cases and carpet designs. The Vision stair rods are a great choice for those looking for something different to the norm.

We also sell  Crystal Stair Rods which are quite unique. Each Crystal rod features a finely cut Austrian crystal which catches the light and creates a dramatic and quite unique decorating effect. These elegant carpet rods emphasise the stair runner whilst offering a touch of elegance. Crystal rods are suitable for use with either carpet runner or fitted carpet making them a great choice for all homes.

Another unique type of stair rod we sell are actually clips as opposed to rods and are called Victorian Stair Clips. In Victorian times stair clips were a popular and fashionable accessory, however modern fitting methods sadly consigned them to history.

Our Victorian stair clips are solid brass in a variety of finishes and traditional manufacturing methods are used to give them quality and authenticity. They will recreate the look of yesteryear and add a distinctive touch to your stairs. They can even create a modern feel particularly in a chrome finish.
